Drawing the Obsessive

Below are some photographs of recent works in Angela’s studio in which she has been expanding her insects in size, exploring mark-making techniques, working with art historical schemas and self-made drawing instruments that attempt to capture the essence of a spider’s movement.

The final images in this post show a series of small ‘writing studies in ants’ that Angela has created in response to pieces of my experimental art text. Angela uses repetition, multiples and parody and the visual metaphor of the ant as a vehicle to investigate human behaviour, specifically our need for communication, connection and conformity.

And following on from our time at DRAW, Angela and I will be collaborating on a text/drawing project – more details to come soon!
