These images were taken during Canadian artist Angela Gooliaff’s and my last day together on our residencies at DRAWInternational (DRAW).
I took the majority of the photographs in Angela’s studio minutes before she packed up all of her fabulous drawings – to stop them from crawling off the page! After DRAW, Angela travelled through France with family and has now returned to her home town of Vancouver where she’ll continue to develop the body of work she created at DRAW and, of course, she’ll be busy making new drawings!
It was great to share and discuss ideas (and walk!) with you Angela during our time at DRAW, and I look forward to more conversations and collaborations soon.

And the top image shows my (very) empty studio at DRAW – my final days as writer in residence didn’t create a particularly messy studio for me to clear up…piles of notebooks, pens and laptops are always easier to pack away than grapple with huge rolls of paper!
Following my residency at DRAW, I am remaining in France to continue working on my arts writing practice and this project – so please check back here for details.
And thank you John & Grete McNorton – DRAWInternational’s founders and directors – for a very rewarding, interesting and stimulating two months learning about the rich and fascinating world of drawing.
